The picture and features of this TV are tremendous. Nine months after purchase, however, I turned on the TV and a black line was present along the middle-left aspect of the image. Several phone calls later, and after sending in digital photographs of the problem, I was told I had a "bad panel." I then went through a series of three different "field engineers." Pics are here: [...] Given the price tag, I expect you would not want to to see this happen to your purchase. Buy something else.
UPDATE: Samsung engineer was at my home yesterday, one month after my initial call. He indeed said "This is a bad panel" He tried to place an order for the part and was told that replacement panels for this model are no longer being manufactured. Three more calls to Samsung 'support' and I am now told my ticket has been escalated to an "Exchange" Samsung states that two weeks from now a new TV will appear at my door and the broken one will be removed.
UPDATE2: New set delivered yesterday. Wow is it nice. Total turn around time from initial problem report to resolution was about 7 weeks. Warranty for this one, I am told, is only 90 days. Guess I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Ironically, I barely ever watch TV. I've spent more time over the past couple months addressing the issue of the broken TV than I would typically spend watching it.

I am still extremely impressed with this television one year into ownership. The picture quality is simply outstanding, and it looks great hanging on the wall.

It has a built-in sub-woofer which helps the sound quite a bit (this is a step up over the 650 model). We almost always listen with just TV speakers, so it was important to me. However, at low volumes, the sound is a bit 'tinny', which is par for the course with thin TVs. Overall, I'd say the sound is top-of-the-line for a flat panel TV, so don't let this deter you. Listening at normal volume, the sound is better than the large CRT we were using before.

Some people complain about a 'halo' around the edge of the screen, and some cosmetic peeling of the 'Touch of Color' (inside the glass of the bezel). These things exist, but they don't bother me. The halo is easily solved if it irritates you (just search around, there are a couple ways to do it), and the peeling is so tiny, I can't believe how much people were commenting on it. You can't even see it unless you're right next to the TV and looking for it. Maybe we just have a mild case of it.

The glossy screen concerned me before I purchased - it almost kept me from pulling the trigger. I don't regret it in the least. Now, when I'm looking at TVs for other rooms in the house, I find I WANT a glossy screen because of how attractive it is and how deep the blacks are (note - I don't care for them on laptops because of glare). However, be wary if there are lots of windows in the room that shine on the TV. If you're sensitive to this, it could bother you. (I still think it's worth it, personally.)

I also use the TV for gaming (Playstation 3). I don't bother putting the TV into 'game mode' (which it has), and have zero problems with lag. Maybe I'm not that sensitive, but I've never noticed any lag at all, actually. I keep my AMP (Auto Motion Plus?) setting on 'Low'. Higher settings seem to cause erratic visuals in fast moving scenes, and I suspect will cause some display lag as it does the extra processing.

Purchased from Amazon, which was no hassle at all (I was concerned about buying a big ticket item online). I won't hesitate to buy a TV from them again. We had zero dead pixels, so no returns were necessary.

Finally, note that there is a newer model of this TV (the B750) which is apparently also excellent (I did some quick research). Although I have no first hand experience with it, it's possible the B750 has a bit more lag than the A750 (if you're looking to use it for any kind of gaming). Honestly, I sincerely doubt that's an issue and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

I'm thrilled with my purchase after a year, and would buy again in a heartbeat if the need arose. We have had zero problems with the TV in that time, which speaks for its reliability.

Overall, love this TV. Incredible picture and realistic movement (240Hz)--almost too good, since the movement of the camera, especially if hand-held for certain scenes is so distinct that it can sometimes be distracting, with all the "jarring" that happens during the filming. So, if that might bother you, stick w/120 Hz or less. We also own the LN40A550, which is also a great set but the jarring isn't as obvious, I think because it's only 60 Hz but great TV too & completely problem-free so far. Might even be nicer with larger than 40" screen.

Caveat: Had LN40B750 about 2 months when picture completely disappears when turn on--now waiting on in-home (warranteed, thankfully) repair next week, which I'm anticipating will result in all being well. Since it's relatively new on market, I am not completely upset about some potential bugs needing to be worked out and still give this tv a high rating--could probably say 5 stars, but will need to see what happens once repaired.

Other pros: I like touch of gray--wasn't too into the red of other models. Screen is slightly shiny but not a problem, despite light from windows, which was a concern prior to seeing it in real life. BTW, you can set it so that the light at the bottom can be on or off, for those who are wondering and might not like that. Looks great w/DVD player and probably fantastic w/blu-ray, but haven't tried that yet.

    Samsung LNT5265F 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

I bought this TV March 15, 2008 based on the reviews here on Amazon. The picture was stunning when we got it hooked up. Shame on me for not doing further research. I just spent $397.69 on November 2, 2009 to replace the power supply board which it turns out is quite common with this TV. Now 20 minutes after turning the set on the whole screen flickers and greys out in the middle which sounds like the panel itself to me but I'll let the repairman coming Thursday make that call. Samsung's attitude is so sorry, we don't reimburse for repairs already completed (had it done myself because they wanted me to ship it to Plano, TX). They did agree to extend the parts only warranty but any labor would "be on you." The labor on the previous repair was $222. For the first 18 months the picture was beautiful and had I reviewed it then would have given this set a 5 star. However, I am giving it a 1 star based on Samsung's refusal to address a known problem with their power supply boards and their "parts only" offer of extended warranty. The bright spot in all this is that my credit card is reimbursing me for the completed repair and will look at the estimate for the current repair. Frankly, if it's the panel that would cost almost as much as buying a new set. Trust me, if it comes to that the new set won't be a Samsung.

Samsung LN46A850 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV With RED Touch Of Color

I bought the LN46A850 120Hz LCD TV for the networking capabilities. This included: Internet widgets (weather), news headlines, DLNA Digital media servers (DMS), Digital media players (DMP), Digital media controllers (DMC),Digital media renderers (DMR). The TV device is unique in that it plays (renders) VIDEO. Most of the more basic DLNA devices just do pictures (e.g. JPEG) and audio (e.g. MPEG). Other codecs are supported but I've not tried them all yet.

In retrospect the video capabilities are fairly limited in the codecs they support. I'm trying this with Windows 7 (Windows Media Player) and still doing some testing. Keep your expectations low with video and consider a PC-attached media server if you plan on actually using "slide show" photo control, but I understand a remote control (v. keyboard) is a very attractive option for technically challenged users.

The 120hz is a big win over older technology especially when viewing sports. I'm unaware of any significantly better performance using 240Hz. My older Samsung 32" HDTV has had some modulation processing errors on HD audio. On my older Samsung HDTV, I often had garbled sound when watching HD / QAM. On this HDTV we have not had this problem. The LN46A850 is fairly thin and wall mountable but IT's A TV! --- not a piece of art.

    Cheap Sony BRAVIA Z Series KDL-40Z5100 40-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV

Terrific picture, especially on the HDTV channels. Controls, etc., are straightforward and intuitive. Sound is just a tad softer than I'd prefer, but it's not bad. Could easily hook a secondary sound system to it, but haven't bothered. My previous TV, an Olevia 32", was the same width, but with side-by speakers it lost a full 8" of screen size. The Bravia is exactly the same width, only a couple of inches taller, and delivers a 25% larger screen. The 240hz upgrade is definitely noticeable. If you're on HD, it's the only way to fly. Plan to hook it to my laptop and take advantage of online TV-movie selections. This set also connects to the Internet, if you have the correct cables or signal devices. That's on the agenda, too.

Don't fear the delivery service, my experience was excellent: They arrived when promised, brought it upstairs, unpacked it, hooked it up, and carted away all the trash. Buying via Amazon beats going to a big-box store and having to do all that yourself -- and the price I paid was more than $200 *below* my local big-box store for the same TV. Free delivery, too. Couldn't be happier.

Samsung LN52A650 52-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV With Red Touch Of Color

I bought this about 8 months ago and have never seen a picture on another set that compares to this model. Its really is stunning. I can't even count how many people that have been over and commented on how great the picture is on this set. One person told me they never really noticed or cared about a tv picture but said that this one was so good that even she took notice.

I read a few months ago that this model is the benchmark that is used to judge the picture of other sets. Not sure if anything changed with the newer models but I feel lucky to have this one in the house. I have two other lcds and while they have great HD pictures this one is at a whole different level.

Samsung LN46B650 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV With Red Touch Of Color

Coming straight to the point, after a lot (several weeks) of research and window shopping, I bought a brand new TV(Samsung LN46B650) from Abes of Maine a couple of weeks ago. It came on time and undamaged (physically). I (fondly), hooked it up to power and turned it on. It felt fine with just stars on the screen(as expected) and I turned it off. This would have taken a minute or two. I called the Cable guys and got it installed urgently but only to see that after a couple of minutes the TV shows really annoying flickers. I checked everything and the cable guy also tried everything he knew but to no avail. We called Samsung and the call center lady spilled the beans by saying that there is a fault with the video card on this TV model (may be on few sets and not all) which is known to samsung. When I asked her as to why they are still selling the TV without the fix, she had no proper reply. Not only the TV showed flickers, after a few more minutes the entire screen was white with colors floating around. I called Abes Of Maine and they asked me to contact Samsung as they cannot do anything about it. They have a no return / exchange policy on TVs (I have also sent an email and I am awaiting their reply). It has been 3 weeks and Samsung has done nothing about it. I have called them about 10 times now and in the subsequent calls they have denied that there was any preexisting issue with the TV. Well, regardless of if was preexisting or not, samsung service is not professional or courteous. They were not even apologetic about my frustration due to their product.

The return policy of AbesOfMaine for TVs is not customer friendly at all. I cannot comment about the product quality yet but seeing their customer support, I am not going to buy any more samsung products.I can certainly request potential TV buyers to buy TV from stores who have a good return policy (Costco etc.) and avoid buying TV online.

Our case with Samsung is still unresolved. Their engineer showed up and stated that he can possibly fix it but more problems show up later in most of these cases.

I love everything about this tv except the buttons. There are no actual buttons, just touch sensitive controls. This makes it a bit difficult to turn on or off, etc without the remote.

Other than the buttons the picture is beautiful (pop a blu-ray in and you'll see what I mean), and at the time I purchased it the technology for the dollar was unparalelled. I would say for people looking now you may want to consider the 240hz model for a little more or hold off and get the LED tvs coming out now. They are dropping in price, have even sharper picture, very light and thin, and use less electricity.

    Sony BRAVIA Z Series KDL-40Z5100 40-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV

Product was delivered as scheduled, no problems at all with that.
Excellent picture quality, very easy to use (x-cross media bar looks almost the same as the one in the playstation 3 system) and light enough to hang it on the wall by myself (wall stand purchased separately).

Widgets and online video capabilities are great. Having the possibility to check the weather while watching TV is very helpful (no need to stand up and check in the computer or swith to Weather Channel). Youtube in the TV is great. Very easy and intuitive to use, even kids can control it by their own.

I have no opinion regarding sound quality, since I use it connected to a Home theater.

I really recommend this TV, it's just great and I love it. For about $1,200-1,300 is the best choice by far. Go for it.
